God creature is very strange. Although his creature is very uncanny humans always tried to gain something from nature. God select humans as the best creation, due to this humans receive lessons from nature, and understand the importance of nature and enjoy the beauty of nature. To relax their busy life they always try to get peace and enjoy some moment which they like. Odisha is full of temples and beautiful places. Out of them, Konark temple is another. It is the Sun temple. It is in the seventh strange of India and also a world heritage site defined by UNESCO in 1984.
Location and Construction of sun temple in Odisha
It is in the Puri district of Odisha. It is 60 km distance from Bhubaneswar and 35 km distance from Puri. King Langula Narasimha Dev built the temple and it opened in 1250 CE. Narasimdev mother was a great adorer of the Sun god. To full fill, his mother’s wish King Narasim dev built this temple. It takes 12 years and 1200 carpenters made it. It is one of the most fascinating things of this temple and the sun idol is suspended in the air like a magnet used in the construction.

It is a very beautiful place, so people from different parts of the country come to visit the Sun temple. It looks like a chariot and seven horses pull its spoke. Beautiful arts by architecture on the stone which are looks alive. To see the art of the Sun temple Ravindra Nath Tagore said-“The language of Sun suppresses the language of men”.
The story behind Sun Temple
A great story is behind the Sun temple. A little boy named Dharmapad sacrifice his life to save his father’s and other carpenter life. The king gives 12 years to build this temple. Bishu Maharana was the chief of all carpenters. All work had finished, only the spire of the temple had not been put rightly by the carpenter. King declared that if the work was not finished in time the king will hang all the carpenters. Dharmapada who was the son of Bishu Maharana, to save his father and other carpenters life put the spire of the temple and sacrifice his own life.
Why temple was closed
According to some historians due to the death of Dharmapad, the temple becomes unholy, so the sun god never worshipped in the sun temple.
Who destroyed the temple and future planning?
Sultan Sikandar Butshikan destroyed the sun temple. Now the debris of the temple is present in Konark. After the 13th century, the temple was filled with sand. Now an archaeological survey of India plans to remove sands from this temple.

Till the temple was destroyed but it attracts visitors from different parts of the country. Konark temple is the symbol of valour and gallantry. It is not only the proclamation of victory but also the certificate of nominalism and patriotism. The other name of the Konark temple is the black pagoda because it is supposed to draw ships into the shore and cause shipwrecks. It is the most beautiful ornamental in the crown adorning the rich heritage and history of Odisha.
